Messari
From AltData.wiki, The Alternative Data Encyclopedia
Messari is a crypto market intelligence platform providing research, asset diligence, monitoring, and data APIs covering more than 40,000 digital assets and over 200 exchanges. Founded about eight years before its 2026 acquisition, the company serves exchanges, funds, protocols, auditors, and regulators through workflows spanning discovery, evaluation, and monitoring of crypto assets.[1]
In June 2026, media and data company Blockworks acquired Messari, combining Blockworks' issuer-side disclosure and investor relations tooling with Messari's market intelligence, APIs, and AI research products to build what the acquirer called a system of record for onchain assets.[2]
What It Does
Messari organizes institutional crypto work into three workflows: discover (screening 40K+ assets, tracking fundraising flows, and quantifying narrative momentum through social signals and mindshare data), diligence (200+ standardized diligence reports with multi-dimensional risk scoring plus AI-powered Deep Research with full citations), and monitor (analyst-verified alerts across more than 60 event types — exploits, upgrades, governance changes, token unlocks — delivered via Slack, email, and API).[1]
The platform also produces independent quarterly 'State of' reports for more than 130 protocols, described as 10-Q equivalents for the decentralized economy, alongside ecosystem dashboards and advisory services.[1]
Products
Product lines include AI Copilot for instant answers, Deep Research templates for institutional-grade reports that auto-refresh weekly, a screener, signals and mindshare tracking, news summarization from 500+ sources, a research library of 7,000+ reports, and monitoring across 1,000+ assets. Token unlock schedules cover 150+ assets and fundraising data spans 17,000+ funding rounds, M&A deals, and investor profiles.[1]
Data is exposed through more than 15 REST API families covering market data, onchain metrics, news, signals, fundraising, research, token unlocks, stablecoins, and protocols; integrations include an MCP server for AI agents, spreadsheets, and a TypeScript SDK.[1][2]
Buyers and Use Cases
Documented customer profiles include a top-three U.S. exchange using monitoring and the API for listing and incident workflows, a top-20 layer-1 protocol using Protocol Services for institutional visibility, and a Big Four audit firm using diligence reports as reference material in client engagements.[1]
Under Blockworks, the combined offering targets two customer groups: issuers of onchain assets such as protocols, foundations, stablecoin and RWA issuers needing disclosure and IR tooling, and underwriters — investors, regulators, exchanges, custodians, fintechs, and increasingly AI agents — that analyze and list those assets.[2]
History
Messari operated for eight years as an independent provider of crypto transparency and market intelligence before Blockworks announced its acquisition on June 12, 2026, shortly after Blockworks raised a Series A extension aimed at consolidating crypto's fragmented data sector. The announcement described Messari's API as critical infrastructure that funds pipe into their systems, exchanges use for listings, developers build on, and agents run atop.[2]
